The Faculty of Fisheries, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Gazipur has been celebrating the National Fish Week 2011 as a part of national program. The theme of this year’s fish week is “Nirapad Macche Vorbo Desh, Bodle Debo Bangladesh (Cultivate safe fish, change Bangladesh). For the occasion Faculty of Fisheries, BSMRAU, takes a week long program. In 21st July 2011, the Vice-chancellor of BSMRAU, led a colorful road rally around the campus, starting from the Fisheries Faculty building, along with the Treasurer, Dean of Fisheries Faculty and all teachers, students and staff. In the midway of road rally, the Vice-chancellor, Treasurer and Dean of Fisheries released fish seed in a BSMRAU campus pond. At the end of the rally, the Vice-chancellor, Treasurer and Dean of Fisheries Faculty delivered short speech about the occasion, its importance and role of fisheries education for the development of fisheries sector of Bangladesh. The Vice-chancellor stressed on creating skilled manpower through quality education and building mass awareness for the development of the fisheries sector for ensuring our national food security, generating employment opportunities and strengthening national economy. He congratulated the Faculty for organizing and celebrating the National Fish Week 2001.
Other programmes that the Fisheries Faculty has been organizing are:
- Essay writing competition among the Fisheries Faculty students on “Present role and future potentials of fisheries resources in achieving national food security and livelihood improvement”
- Exhibition of fish, fishing gear and craft, posters, fish specimens, publications, etc
- Seminar on “Fisheries education, research and extension: fisheries sector development perspective in Bangladesh”
- Closing – “Discussions, prize giving and cultural program”
